Abstract: The launch of 'Chrome' - Google Inc.'s (Google's) browser - in September 2008 is reminiscent of the browser wars of the 1990s. Chrome may initiate a battle similar to the one between market leaders - Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. More importantly, Chrome may also herald the era of 'cloud computing', jeopardising the existence of operating systems - Microsoft's turf. The case study helps in analysing the rationale behind Google launching its own browser in spite of the presence of similar browsers in the market. It also deals with the advantages and disadvantages that Chrome possesses when compared to its competitors. Will Google's strategy behind Chrome enable it to end Microsoft's dominance in the desktop and the browser markets? Or will Chrome also go into oblivion like many other prior browsers?
